CHIANG RAI – The National Peace and Order Maintaining Council has declared a curfew throughout the kingdom from 10 pm to 5 am, effective from today onwards.

After the National Peace and Order Maintaining Council made an announcement to seize the government’s power at 4.30 pm today, another statement has been released on a nationwide curfew. Public members are prohibited from being outside buildings during 10 pm-5 am, starting tonight, unless given permission by authorities.

Moreover, security officials are authorized to hold their grounds in certain areas for a certain period of time as assigned by superiors in accordance with the Martial Law Act 1914.

The National Peace and Order Maintaining Council has encouraged all public members, including protesters, to return to their residences while asking for their cooperation.

Deputy Spokesman for the Royal Thai Army Col Winthai Suwaree stated that, in order to restore peace and order in the nation, the National Peace and Order Maintaining Council had requested the general public as well as demonstrators of all factions to return home immediately.

Buses have been supplied by the Transport Company to serve commuters. Anybody can also contact military units nearest them for assistance.

Since a curfew would take effect from 10 pm to 5 am, Col Winthai urged people who were running their errands to make sure they finished up and arrived home in time. Air passengers whose flights are scheduled to depart during the time of curfew can still travel to the airport as usual.
