First Cases of Omicron Variant Found in Northeastern Thailand
The Governor of northeastern Thailand’s Khon Kaen Province Somsak Jungtrakul announced Wednesday that his province has seen its first two Omicron cases.
However, he said that there should be no panic, as Khon Kaen health officials have taken strict measures to minimize the spread of the Omicron variant that transmits very easily.
The couple, who live in the northeastern province of Kalasin, returned from Belgium on December 10th and entered minimal state quarantine. They tested negative upon their return.
As soon as they were cleared to return home, they boarded a Thai Smile flight and were driven home by a relative. They both travelled to Khon Kaen on December 13th to renew their passports at the provincial hall and then took the Khon Kaen-Mukdahan bus back to Kalasin between 4:30 and 6:30 pm.

Later, the couple was referred to a private hospital in Khon Kaen for treatment and later transferred to a private hospital in Kalasin
Meanwhile, the provincial health office in Khon Kaen released a statement advising anyone who had visited the places where the infected couple had visited to monitor their health and to report any symptoms to their local health officials immediately.
