PHITSANULOK – A man was arrested on Tuesday on charges that he had assaulted and raped his daughter at the family farm for five years.
Police apprehended Banjit Srisook, 41, at his home in Phrom Phiram district. They seized a wooden plank allegedly used by the man as a weapon against his daughter since 2008.
The daughter, now 20, told officers she had been living alone with her father after her mother left the man, complaining he was an alcoholic with violent behaviour. It was not clear why she left her daughter with the man.
According to the charges, Mr Banjit first raped the 15-year-old after he called her to do farm work. He threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone, police charged.
After that, he would force himself on her “every time he was drunk, for five years,” she told police.
The woman said the last incident occurred last Friday. She decided to leave the home, and escaped on a motorbike to the home of her mother in a nearby village. Her father followed her, confronted her and struck her with the wooden plank, breaking her left arm, the charges allege. A neighbour came to her aid, and took the woman to a hospital.
The case then proceeded quickly. Her mother accompanied the woman to the police station to file charges against Mr Banjit last Friday. The Phitsanulok court issued an arrest warrant later the same day.
Police said on Tuesday that Mr Banjit admitted under interrogation that he had raped his own daughter. He allegedly denied serial rape, telling police it had occurred once, when he was sexually aroused by her.
Police denied bail, citing concern for the victim’s safety. Medical bills will be paid by the government health system, and the woman has been offered counselling and emotional rehabilitation at a social center in Phitsanulok.
