Couple Cycle from Chiang Rai to China for Landmines Charity
CHIANGRAI-On 13th December, a British couple are cycling from their home in Chiang Rai to China. Hannah Broughton and Caspian Jamie are embarking on this challenging 300 mile trip to raise money for the Nobel Prize winning charity, Mines Advisory Group (MAG).
Hannah Broughton and Caspian JamieFor 20 years, MAG has been working to clear leftover bombs, landmines and weapons from countries all over the world, saving thousands of lives and building people’s futures in safety.
The route travels through mountainous Northern Laos, one of the countries where MAG is currently operating. In Laos alone from 2004 to June 2012, MAG cleared more than 38.7 million square metres of suspect land, destroying 161,802 unexploded bombs.
Hannah says “We have never done a long cycle trip before, so this will be a big challenge for us. We really want to raise money for MAG as they are having such a positive impact in countries like Laos. Not only does their work save lives, it also provides safe land for farming, building schools and allows access to clean drinking water”
