CHIANG RAI – The Protected Areas Regional Office 15 in Chiang Rai held an event to raise public awareness for World Ranger Day 2016, promoting officials’ role and their sacrifice in forest conservation and the protection of the Kingdom’s natural resources.

The event, which takes place on 31 July of every year, is held to promote awareness on the role that rangers play in the conservation of natural resources, in keeping with the declaration from the International Ranger Federation

Director of the Protected Areas Regional Office 15 in Chiang Rai Niphon Chamnongsirisak on Sunday presided over the opening ceremony of a World Ranger Day event at the Doi Luang National Park. The event was aimed at remembering the contribution made by forest rangers and giving them moral support.

During the event, forest rangers took an oath of allegiance, plated trees to build a check dam and attended a seminar on the work of forest rangers. There was also a ceremony to present certificates to outstanding forest rangers.

Meanwhile in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Deputy Governor Phongthep Khaimuk presided over the opening ceremony of a World Ranger Day celebration held near Somdej Phra Srinagarindra 84 Park in Mueang district.
At Phetchaburi World Ranger Day celebrations in Kaeng Krachan National Park, the DNP Director-General said the department has, since the year 2003, employed 20,490 rangers in forms of permanent employees and contract workers.

The department had provided financial assistance to 223 rangers at a total volume of 4.5 million baht with 68 cases of injuries, 46 of which are serious injuries, 3 cases of disabilities, and 106 cases of fatalities.

All rangers are also legally insured to receive assistance in cases of accident, while welfare benefits provided by the department are also extended to cover their families and children as well.The general public are also invited to make donations to the DNP’s welfare foundation to support the work of rangers by transferring money to Siam Commercial Bank’s account number 053 283 933 1
