Chiangrai Times – Municipal Election results showed candidates from the Wanchai Pattana team swept 23 out of 24 seats in Sunday’s Chiang Rai municipal elections, leaving only one seat to a candidate from the Pheu Thai-backed Arsa Pracha team, said Ms Suranit Ongla, director of the election panel.
Pheu Thai-backed candidates were licking their wounds after suffering heavy defeats in the Chiang Rai municipal polls
The Wanchai Pattana team was led by incumbent mayor Wanchai Jongsutthamanee, while Arsa Pracha, led by Somchai Kullawong, was backed by Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Rai Samart Kaewmeechai.
Sunday’s race was in sharp contrast to last month’s Chiang Rai provincial administration organisation (PAO) chairman poll where a candidate backed by Pheu Thai won the race.
Salakjit Tiyaphairat, the wife of former House speaker Yongyuth Tiyaphairat beat former Chiang Rai PAO chairwoman Rattana Jongsutthamanee.
