CHIANG RAI – Chiang Rai province has officially introduced two communities in Wiang Pa Pao district as new OTOP tourist destinations, to promote locally made goods and local tourism.

Chinoros Leesawat of the Community Development Office of Wiang Pa Pao District said today that Ban Pong Thewi 2 and Ban Pong Thewi 5 were selected as new tourist sites under the OTOP Village-8-destinations scheme, given the location of the two places and what they have to offer such as hot springs, ancient ruins and temples.

Senior Assistant Chief of Wiang Pa Pao District Officer Boonlom Deesermyos says the scheme was developed in response to the 20-year national strategy with the aim of promoting the sale of locally made products, boosting tourism and ensuring a sustainable living for local residents. The Ministry of the Interior has also provided support to the implementation of the scheme.

Those planning to visit Ban Pong Thewi 2 and Ban Pong Thewi 5 shouldn’t miss the cultural performances, Thung Thewi hot springs, Wat Pong Thewi Temple and the production of the region’s traditional clay pots.
