Two Chiang Mai Students Killed and 15 others Injured in Tragic Accident

CHIANG MAI – Two female students aged 11 and 7 have been killed and 15 more injured and admitted to hospital after the pickup truck they were riding in stalled and then slid off the road and into a ravine.
Mae Hong Son Police reported that a group of 17 students students from Longpae Witthayakhom School accepted a lift from a pickup driver who saw them walking home and offered them a ride that ended tragically in Omkoi district.
The over loaded pickup was traveling along an unprotected hillside road, when it stalled and then slid into a ravine.
Two students died in the accident and 15 were injured. Four students and the driver were seriously hurt. The other 11 students suffered minor injuries, said Pol Maj Gen Yutthachai Puaprasert, chief of Mae Hong Son police chief.
The accident happened around 4pm on Tuesday near Jueta village in Sop Khong of Omkoi district, which is adjacent to Sop Moei district of Mae Hong Son.
Police and rescuers from both Sop Moei and Mae Sariang were rushed to the scene.
The two dead were young schoolgirls, identified as Wipaporn Naesae, 11 and Wilaiporn Pachor 7. The injured were four boys and 11 girls aged 7-13 years, and driver Norjae Preechadetsuk, 36.
All students were from Longpae Witthaya School in Sop Moei district, Thai media reported on Wednesday.
Police said the vehicle was overloaded and this was the likely cause of the accident. They were investigating.
