CHIANG RAI – The Meteorological Department has forcasted thunderstorms and high winds in northern Thailand that might help help alleviate the haze conditions, especially in Chiang Rai.
Pollution Control Department (PCD) Director General Wijarn Simachaya has disclosed that the air quality in the nine Northern provinces range from moderate to unhealthy levels.

A War Room was previously set up to monitor haze and forest fires in the nine Northern provinces including Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Nan, Phrae, Phayao,Tak, Lampang, Lamphun and Mae Hong Son.

The highest reading for particulate matter of 10 microns in diameter or smaller (PM10) in Wiangphankham subdistrict, Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai, was at 319 micrograms per cubic meter, due to the area’s cross border haze problem and lack of precipitation.

Three people have died in the North from heat stroke or heat exhaustion as temperatures exceeded 40C in several provinces Sunday.
The mercury topped 43C in Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Sukhothai, Tak and Phetchabun, prompting doctors to issue warnings urging people to take measures to prevent heat exhaustion. The Meteorological Department measured a record high in Kanchanaburi for this month of 42C.
