CHIANG RAI – Gen. Anupong Paojinda Minister of Interior has ordered 19 Provincial Authorities in Northern Thailand to provide relief aid to the people in the 19 provinces affected by the extreme cold weather in the winter season.
Gen. Anupong Paojinda said that a total of 207 districts in 19 provinces have been declared winter disaster zones in this year.
Gen. Anupong Paojinda stated that all the governing provincial offices have been ordered to thoroughly provide relief operations to the affected public and to come up with a disaster prevention measure for the winter season.
The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Chatchai Promlert has revealed that the department has coordinated with the 19 Provinces to set up the temporary winter disaster prevention and mitigation command center as the central agency to enhance cooperation among related agencies in providing public assistance, weather condition monitoring, and plan for relief operations.
The public has been advised to be prepared for the harsh weather this season, said the DDPM Director-General.
The affected provinces are Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Nan, Lampang, Phayao, Uttaradit, Mae Hong Son, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom, Loei, Khon Kaen, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Chaiyaphum, and Bueng Kan.
