Thai Navy Patrol Seizes 139 Kilograms of Marijuana on Mekong River

NONG KHAI – The Thai Navy has reportedly seized 139 kilograms of High Grade Marijuana in brand-name suitcases abandoned along the Mekong River in Nong Khai late Friday night.
Suchart Noppawan Governor Nong Khai announced on Saturday of the seizureĀ at the naval office in Si Chiang Mai district.
The marijuana worth about one million baht, was seized by a team of naval officers dispatched to the Mekong River on Friday night following information that a drug gangĀ planned ro smuggle them into the country from LaosĀ via the river.
The team later found eight brown brand-name suitcases left abandoned at the river bank in Kong Nang village of Tha Bo district.
The drugs, priced at 3,000 baht a kilogram in Laos, couldĀ fetch up to 8,000 baht a kilogram in Thailand, said authorities.
