Small Tremor’s 2.4-2.6 Magnitude Hit Phan Chiang Rai
CHIANG RAI – Several small tremors ranging from 2.4-2.6 magnitude occurred in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai on Thursday morning, but people did not notice them and there was no damage.
The Seismological Bureau of the Meteorological Department reported that the first quake was centered seven kilometers underground in Phan district with the magnitude of 2.5 at 12.04am.
At 4.04am another shake of 2.4 magnitude occurred four kilometers underground in the same district.
At 9.14am, a 2.6 tremor occurred three kilometers underground in Mae Lao district.
Two earlier tremors were recorded in Phan district – a 2.2-magnitude shake one kilometer underground at 6.30pm on June 17 and a 2.5 shake five kilometers underground at 4.35am on June 18.
In the evening of May 5 the biggest inland quake recorded in Thailand was centered about seven kilometers under Mae Lao district of Chiang Rai. The earthquake damaged many buildings, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to 24 others.
