Senate Election Atmosphere in Chiang Rai is Bustling

 

CHIANG RAI – In the northern provinces of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, a large number of voters have been seen waiting in line at polling booths to exercise their rights on the senate election on Sunday.

Some voters had arrived long before the booths were opened. The provincial Election Commission expected at least 60 per cent of eligible voters to show up.

Chiang Rai electoral board also hoped to be able to announce an unofficial result of ballot counting on Sunday night at at 8 pm. The unofficial result must be endorsed by the central Election Commission, which is expected later this week.

The Sunday’s election is to fill 77 electoral senate seats in the Upper house of 150 seats. The rest, 73, are appointed.
