CHIANG RAI – An academic seminar on strategic human trafficking prevention in Chiang Rai province has been kicked off to support and strengthen the anti-human trafficking network in Thailand.

Among the attendees were Chiang Rai Governor Boonsong Techamanisit, Social Development and Human Security Official Anira Thinon, and relevant agencies. Another objective of the seminar was to educate those involved in anti-human trafficking efforts on drafting budget proposals and petitions.

Ms. Anira claimed that many activists often failed to obtain budgets from Anti-Human Trafficking Fund due to improper letter composition. The seminar also served as a platform for relevant units to share their problems and experience in organizing anti-human trafficking campaigns.

The Chiang Rai Governor said the government has placed importance on eradicating human trafficking, due to Thailand’s Tier 3 rating on the U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report. He believed the strategic seminar is an important step to ensuring human traffickers will be arrested promptly and their victims are getting the help they need.
