CHIANG RAI – Thailand’s Meteorological Department’s Seismological Bureau has paid a visit to Chiang Rai province to educate locals and build disaster response networks, especially for earthquakes.

Deputy Director Putchapong Nodthaisong presided over the opening ceremony of a training session for earthquake preparedness.

The event was attended by operators of the Northern Meteorological Center, meteorological stations in earthquake-prone areas, and the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, as well as members of the press.

The training session aimed to build a network of cooperation on earthquake response and preparation. The public was urged to develop skills pertaining to damage estimation and to follow news reports closely during a crisis.

Mr. Putchapong said that despite Thailand being a low-risk country, it is not completely safe from earthquake disasters. Quakes are considered unpredictable compared to other kinds of natural disasters.
