Safe Home in Chiang Rai for Cattle that Survived Truck-Train Crash in Phetchaburi

CHIANG RAI – The Conservation and Shelter Center for Needy Animals in tambon Mae Rim in Chiang Rai’s Phan district is to receive 17 cows which survived a truck-train collision in Phetchaburi on Thursday.
The 17 cows have been saved from the slaughterhouse after Nichada Saksathaporn, 29, a worker at an electric appliance company in Bangkok, launched an online donation campaign which brought in more than one million baht.

Nichada Saksathaporn posted a message on her Facebook page inviting people to join her and her friends in making merit by donating money and buying the cows.
The donations were sent through Ms Nichada’s bank account (697,280 baht) and the shelter’s account (457,496 baht).
The group paid 624,855 baht to farm owner Luan Sangkham to transport the 17 cows to the Conservation and Shelter Center for Needy Animals in tambon Mae Rim in Chiang Rai’s Phan district where they will graze naturally on 30-rai of paddocks instead of being grain fed.
They will be kept there until they die naturally, according to Phra Wen Rattanayano, a monk and the centre’s founder. The money paid for the cattle covers the cost of food for a week and transportation of the animals.
Ms Nichada said she heard about the accident and the cow’s fate from the news and wanted to raise funds to help them. She presented transaction records from all donors to Muang Phetchaburi police to assert her sincerity and transparency in the campaign after some people raised doubts that she was a scammer.
