CHIANG RAI – The Pollution Control Department reported that the haze situation remains critical in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Phrae, prompting local authorities to proceed with various measures to protect the health of local residents.

The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Chatchai Promlert disclosed that the measurements of airborne particulates in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Phrae provinces were recently found to remain above the safe level.

The department is therefore coordinating with the provincial administrators in sending out officials to closely monitor the situation and spray water mist to increase humidity and alleviate the smog.

The authorities are also tasked with raising public awareness of health dangers from dust inhalation and urging people to avoid burning garbage and agricultural waste which would exacerbate the haze crisis.

Local residents are also encouraged to keep abreast of the latest developments in their areas and strictly follow officials’ instructions. In the meantime, assistance can be requested via Hotline 1784.
