Officials Give Aid to Flood Victims in Chiang Rai’s Mae Chan District

CHIANG RAI – Officials Mae Chan in have handed out aid supplies to a number of people from various villages in the wake of recent forest runoff that caused severe flooding.
At Wat Don Mun in Mae Chan district of Chiang Rai, Deputy Commander of the 37th Military Circle Col Bancha Duriyapunt led the Mae Chan District Chief and other concerned officials in the distribution of survival bags containing rice, dried foods and drinking water to local residents who were recently affected by flooding.
The flood victims included over 500 families from six villages within Mae Rai subdistrict and staff from Ban Pa Kwao-Don Chai School.
Heavy downpours from a nearby mountain inundated many homes and agricultural fields in Mae Chan district. Local authorities are currently conducting damage assessment.
Officials from the 37th Military Circle and Mae Rai Subdistrict Municipality have been dispatched to unclog waterways in all villages in a bid to facilitate drainage.
Another company of soldiers was also sent to Ban Pa Kwao-Don Chai School to pump out the floodwater. The school has been partially closed due to substantial damage.
The premier told the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the National Council for Peace and Order and other relevant agencies to mobilize personnel and essential items to help people currently coping with floods.
