CHIANG RAI – The Meterological Department warned on Thursday there will be increased prevalence of storms and gusty winds during the Songkran Holiday.

In Chiang Rai, around 200 rai of water melon plantations in Phaya Mengrai were damaged by a hail storm. Authorities surveying the damage estimated that 8 million baht of losses have been incurred to the farmers.

In Buriram province, a storm ploughed its way through the province and downed rubber trees on approximately 300 rai of plantation area, prompting the rubber plantation owners to urge for assistance from the state to help them cope with the damage.

Although storms have started occurring, as many as 40 provinces remain afflicted by drought
