Hundreds of Homes Damaged by Summer Storm in Chiang Rai Province
CHIANG RAI – Hundreds of homes in Chiang Rai Province were severely damaged on Tuesday after a Summer Storm struck on Tuesday.
Over a hundred homes in the Mae Lao District were damaged, District chief Khathasit Neungla led officials and soldiers on an inspection tour on Wednesday morning at Tambon Pa Kor Dam, where many tin and tile roofs were blown away by high winds.
He said the municipality would provide initial funds for repairs and soldiers would help people rebuild.
In Nan, heavy rain and hail pounded tambon San in Wiang Sa district on Wednesday night, uprooting several big trees and toppling five power poles. No injuries were reported.
Thep Tangjai, head of Ban Sai Thong in tambon San, said the storm damaged 45 houses and a large swathe of crops.
Soldiers and officials from Nan provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office were sent to survey the damage on Thursday morning.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds and hail are forecast in the North, the Northeast, the Central area including Bangkok, the East and parts of the South on April 26-30th, the weather office warned on Thursday morning.
People were again advised to keep away from large trees, billboards and unsecured structures during a storm.
Summer storms are created when high pressure systems from China extended into the upper North of Thailand where it meets with rising hot air, generating storms, as a westerly trough is also moving through the North.
