CHIANG RAI – Heavy monsoon rainfall has caused the flooding in the village of Huai Khrai Nua, in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai as the province authorities have issues a 24-hour landslide warning.

Officials and residents of Huai Khrai Nua village are conducting a cleanup of their homes, after flooding caused widespread damage to the residences in Soi 4. Local authorizes deployed a water truck and begun cleaning Phahon Yothin Road, which had been covered in mud.

The steep landscape has led to abrupt changes in water levels. Officials are, therefore, closely monitoring the area.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said in its weather forecast this morning that the North and Northeast regions will continue to be hit with widespread rain and isolated torrential downpours during Aug 16-17 as tropical storm “Bebinca” is expected to move to upper Vietnam and Laos.

As of 4am today, the storm was almost stationary over the South China Asea with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres an hour.
