CHIANG RAI – According to the Meteorological Department’s daily weather forecast, more rain with some heavy falls, can be expected today and tomorrow, especially in the North and the Northeast regions of the country.

Today at 4.00 a.m., typhoon “KALMAEGI” descended on upper Vietnam but was downgraded to a tropical storm. The storm is now centered west of Hanoi, Vietnam, at latitude 22.0 degree North, longitude 105.5 degree East. The storm with a sustained wind speed of 100 km/hr was moving west at a speed of 30 km/hr. It is heading to upper Laos and is subjected to a further downgrade to a tropical depression by tonight.

People in the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen and Chaiyaphum should beware of approaching heavy rain and strong winds.

The Meteorological Department added that along with the active southwest monsoon which prevails over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, torrential rain with heavy to very heavy falls is likely in the East and the Southern regions of the country. People in the provinces of Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Chumphon, Phang-nga, Phuket and Krabi can also expect heavy rain. Waves of 2 to 4 meters high can be expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea due to the strong winds. All ships are advised to proceed with caution.

In the Bangkok metropolitan area, residents can expect cloudy skies with an 80% chance of fairly widespread thundershowers.

Temperatures throughout the country will range between 23-34 degrees during Wednesday.
