Five Hmong Men Arrested in Chiang Rai, 30Kg of Crystal Meth and 700,000 Yaba Tablets Seized

CHIANG RAI – Anti-Narcotics Police arrested five ethnic Hmongs in Chiang Rai and from them seized 700,000 methamphetamine pills and 30 kg of crystal meth en route to Ayutthaya.

Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong, advisor to caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra; Deputy National Police Chief, Pol Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang; and Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) secretary general Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen jointly chaired a press conference announcing the arrest of the drug dealers.
Gen Pongsapat said that Mr Saengsuree Saeli, an ethnic Hmong, and his four accomplices were arrested at Chiang Rai’s San Sai district after the Narcotics Suppression Bureau received a tip-off that Mr Saengsuree’s group was delivering illicit drug from the northern region to traders in Ayutthaya.
The informants said that the group would travel using a pickup truck bearing Chiang Mai registration plate along Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai road. Police followed the vehicle and stopped the pickup truck at Sri Sai Moon intersection in the provincial seat.
After searching it, police found 13 rug sacks full off 700,000 meth pills and 30 kilograms of ice.
The suspects told police that they were hired by an ethnic Lahu man who was part of a network controlled by Colonel Yi Say, a drug kingpin wanted by Thai authorities. The illicit drugs were smuggled across the Thai border to Chiang Rai before moving to Chiang Mai and was en route to Ayutthaya and adjacent provinces.
Each smuggler received Bt100,000 for delivering the shipment.
