CHIANG RAI – Mae Chan District Chief Somsak Kanakam has led a group of local ethnic minorities, from the Lisu, Mien, Lua , Akha, and Lahu people, to attend an activity held to express their condolences and contemplation of the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s contribution to local development.

The tribesmen and women held images of the late monarch above their head, and loudly sang the royal anthem out of their appreciation to His Majesty’s royal grace.

During his reign, His Majesty King Bhumibol visited the Mae Chan area 4 times, in 1958 to meet local people, in 1979 to observe the oil tribes development unit, in 1980 to meet local people, and again in 1981 to observe a dyke construction at Huai Pong Kaen stream.
