Drug Runner Arrested at Chiang Rai Bus Station with 8.6 Kg of Methamphetamine

CHIANG RAI – Muang Chiang Rai Police arrested a 33 year-old Thai man after police discovered methamphetamine’s in his travel bag during a routine search at Chiang Rai bus Station.

Police officers said they boarded a Bangkok bound bus at approximately 5:30 PM and when they were interviewing passengers Mr. Nirand Pornsuksomsakul, refused to make eye contact, staring out continuously out the bus window.

When officers approached him he acted very nervous and upon a search of his travel bag they discovered 8.6Kg of Methamphetamine pills.

Mr. Nirand told police that a Myanmar man, whom he knew only as “Boy”, had paid him Bt50,000 to courier the drug from Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district to a recipient in Bangkok.

Lt. Gen. Thanattha Nantawan of the Muang Chiang Rai Police told reporters that the police were acting on an earlier tip that drugs were being shipped by transit from Mae Sai District.
