Deputy PM assures China of Fairness in Chinese Sailors Murder Case
Chiangrai Times – Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has assured China that investigations into the murder of 13 Chinese sailors on the Mekong River last year are being carried out with fairness and transparency.
Chinese Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu has paid a visit to Thailand to hold a discussion with Mr Chalerm regarding progress in the murder case. The Deputy Minister has reiterated that the case has been given top priority and is handled with fairness.
13 Chinese sailors on two cargo ships in October of last year.During Mr Meng’s visit, Mr Chalerm also discussed the extending of the government’s invitation for Chinese premier Wen Jiabao to visit the kingdom while inviting more Chinese tourists to the country. He also requested China’s cooperation in maintaining peace along the borders and tackling cross-border crimes and drug-trafficking.
The joint police investigation in China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand had led to the arrest of Naw Kham and core members of the gang who planned and conducted the murder of 13 Chinese sailors on two cargo ships in October of last year.
Thai fugitive Olarn Sompongphan, alias Chamras, is currently being tracked down as one of the perpetrators in the murder case.
