Days Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide in Chiang Saen

CHANG SAEN – Days Heavy rains have triggered a landslide at Chiang Saen’s tourist area of the Golden Triangle burying several Souvenir shops.

Mountain soil, trees and brush buried three shops, blocked the entrances to about 10 more and knocked over four utility poles.

Luckily there were no casualties as the Souvenir shops were closed at the time of the landslide.

District chief Pinij Kaewjitkongthong told the Nation that troops from the Pha Mueng Taskforce and heavy machinery to clean up the debris from the landslide.

The shops in Chiang Saen district were closed at the time and no one was injured.

Meanwhile, flash flooding the previous night had inundated homes in Nang Lae subdistrict, but has since receded. Residents are now cleaning up their homes and surveying damage.

The Governor of Chiang Rai has instructed officials to drain water out of homes and expects that the province will resume normalcy, provided no additional rainfall occurs.
