CHIANG RAI -  Chinese Ambassador to Thailand is his Excellency Ning Fukui has delivered a special lecture to students in Chiang Rai province on the relationship between Thai and Chinese economies.

His Excellency Ning Fukui addressed students at Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai. His lecture was also attended by the university’s chancellor, as well as Thai and Chinese business operators.

Mr Fukui spoke of the long history of economic relations between the two countries, such as China’s discount oil sales to Thailand during the oil price crisis and pegging its currency during the Asian financial crisis of 1997.

He also mentioned Thailand’s humanitarian assistance during natural disasters and epidemics in China, with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn providing assistance in the form of building schools.

He revealed that China currently has a five-year development plan to maintain the country’s GDP at 6.5 – 7% in the year 2020. Mr. Fukui added that the country will push for more international business partnerships. China also plans to increase the value of maritime trade investment between China and ASEAN countries to 150 billion dollars.
