China Opens Dam Gates to Restore Mekong Shipping to Chiang Saen Port

CHIANG RAI – Chinese authorities have increased water flow from a dam, allowing large cargo ships to navigate through the Mekong River through Chiang Rai Province.
The drought in Chiang Rai Province has caused the water levels in the Mekong River to decrease, to the point where sand dunes have emerged in the middle of the river, disrupting the traffic of cargo ships from China and Laos that are receiving goods from Chiang Saen Port.
This situation has been lifted after the release of water from a dam in China, from 800 cubic meters per second to 1,200-1,500 cubic meters, increasing water levels to return cargo activity to normal.
