CHIANGRAI TIMES – Police on Tuesday morning seized nearly two million methamphetamine pills and 40 kilograms of “ice” and arrested one suspect on a charge of possessing an illegal drug in Phaya Mengrai district of Chiang Rai.
Provincial police patrolled an area in Phaya Mengrai district following a tip that a drug trafficking gang would use the area as a transit route to make a delivery.
Police arrested one suspect and seized 1.8 million methamphetamine pills and 40kg crystal meth, also known as “ice”.
Waranart Changtaeng, 45, was nabbed in an orchard. He declined to give details, saying only that he was safeguarding the drug shipment.
Investigators learned that the drugs belonged to a village head and are gathering evidence to summon him for questioning.
The police are conducting a further investigation and National Police Chief Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong will hold a news conference in Chiang Rai later today
