CHIANG RAI – The Forestry Department’s Regional Office 15, Director Mr. Niphon Chamnongsirisak and Asst Prof Udom Suthakham, vice president of Lanna Rajamangala University in Chiang Rai province, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the project to build a network for the preventing and monitoring of brush-fires in five communities in the province with the use of a smart phone tracking system.

Director Mr. Niphon Chamnongsirisak said Chiang Rai was among the first few provinces where research was conducted on ways and means to stop brush-fires under support of Lanna Rajamangala University and via cellphone application.

If a brush-fire occurs in a specific area in Chiang Rai Province, firefighting units will get to the scene faster after being alerted through the mobile application with the use of NASA satellites and Google Earth.
