Chiang Rai Residents Gather Donations for Myanmar Flood Victims

CHIANG RAI –  The Thailand-Myanmar Township Border Committee (TBC) in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai has joined hands with the Thai-Myanmar Cultural And Economic Cooperation Association, Chiang Rai Branch, to set up a donation center to help the flood-affected public in the western region of Myanmar. The Governor of Chiang Rai Pongsak Wangsamer and the Thai TBC Chairman Col Prapat Pobsuwan of the King Guard, 2nd Calvary Division announced that he received donations of dry foods and drinking water from delegates of government and private agencies in the province. Donations campaigns have also been pursued by the Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce. The Vice Chair of the Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce Pakaimas Vierra has said that the ongoing flood in Myanmar has caused distressed many people, while the general public of Chiang Rai can contribute by donating to the Mae Sai border post, to the Chamber of Commerce offices in Chiang Rai, Chiang Saen, and Mae Sai, or to the Mekong Riverline Unit. She has said that donations will be allocated through to Myanmar via airplanes from Tachileik Airport, which will then be delivered to the public by Myanmar officials. Floods in western Myanmar has claimed 27 lives, while around 156,000 people have been driven out of their homes, with Rakhine State suffering the most from this disaster. Maynmar has now declared an emergency situation in Kachin State, Rakhine State, Magway Region, and Sagaing Region.
