Chiang Rai Province to Work Towards Greener Agriculture and Food Safety

CHIANG RAI – The Governor of Chiang Rai Province Mr. Pongsak Wangsamer, has declared Chiang Rai’s commitment to develop itself as the City of Green Agriculture and Food Safety. Governor Wangsamer believes this will help to promote healthy eating habits and a sustainable food security which will be good for tourism in Chiang Rai Province.

According to Governor Wangsamer, the consumption of low-quality and toxic foods is one of the major causes of health problems among farmers and other consumers. The problem can be addressed with the co-operation from all sectors in Chiang Rai including government units, business people and the general public.

Under the financial support of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, the commitment declaration aims to build Chiang Rai as exemplary city driven by the integration of cooperative hands towards a green city. The project will later be expanded to other cities nationwide.

The commitment is announced as a New Year gift for people and tourists and to prepare Thailand for the ASEAN Community to be realized at the end of 2015.
