CHIANG RAI – Pol Col Thatthanasorn Chutharat, chief of Mae Chan police, said at a media briefing on Thursday 41 year-old Charoen Chumchan has been arrested while trying to smuggle over a million methamphetamine pills into the country through Mae Chan district.

Acting on a tip that smugglers would move drugs into Thailand from the Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Sai district, Mae Chan district police and border patrol officers stopped Mr. Chumchan for a search and found five fertiliser sacks inside the pickup.

The sacks contained 1,128,000 speed pills wrapped in black plastic, Pol Col Thatthanasorn said.

Charoen  Chumchan, 41,  of Chiang Mai, was charged with having illicit drugs in his possession with intent to sell.

Police said the will interview Mr. Chumchan further to find more people involved.
