CHIANG RAI -Villagers in the highlands of Mae Fah Luang district of Chiang Rai province have been setting bonfires to stay warm, as nighttime temperatures fall below 10 degrees Celsius.

Over 500 villagers are reportedly without adequate winter clothing. People are encouraged to donate winter wear to the villages or at the Mae Salong Noi Subdistrict Office.

Morning temperatures in the capital district have reached 17 degrees Celsius, affecting children going to school and those giving morning alms to monks.

As cold weather is forecast to continue in Chiang Rai, especially in the morning, members of the public have been warned by health officils to dress warmly.
