.
The Japanese consul has said the Japanese people regard sakura as a highly valued flower as they will fully bloom for only a week throughout a year.
He said the planting of the trees in Chiang Rai reflected the close ties between the two countries and called on all parties to take care of the trees.
Gunma Sakura Association President Kobori Takeo said this was the third year the association brought sakura trees to be planted in Chiang Rai, with the number of the trees planted now totaling 2,500.
He said the Sakura Association will keep sending sakura trees to be planted in Chiang Rai for at least five more years to make the blossoms a common scenery in Chiang Rai Province.
