3.9G Hight Speed Internt Coming to Chiangrai

 

The system next generation wireless TOT3G- (HSPA) be ready for launch in Chiangrai by November and next year across the country, says the CDC Corporation.  The state telecommunications company plans to launch a marketing campaign for the brand TOT3G morning to help raise public awareness about the project.

The new system, based on the 1900 – megahertz frequency and informally known as 3.9G, offers speeds up to 42 Mbps or an order of magnitude faster than the commonly used, the network pre-3G Edge now offers through the main cellular providers.

This is the second public release of a 3G wireless system by TOT.  In December 2009 under the then Minister of ICT Ranongruk Suwunchwee, TOT announced 3G services with over 500 base stations in Bangkok as a pilot project.

End-user services are marketed by five companies that act as mobile virtual network operators using the network of CDC.

A new network is being built to TOT under a 15. contract of 99 million baht last month awarded the Consortium Ltd., a joint venture between Loxley and Samart Telcoms.The network will be the first in the country and only 14 of the world in using HSPA + (High Speed ​​Packet Access Plus) system.

TOT president Tubtiang Arnon said the new system offers transmission speeds of up to six times faster than current 3G network.

The demand for high-speed wireless networks has increased considerably with the popularity of Internet, multimedia applications and the use of smartphones and Tablet PC.

But the advent of next generation networks in Thailand has been delayed for years due to political infighting, legal challenges to the legitimacy of the existing regulatory and policy changes.

The top three cellular operators – AIS, DTAC and True – currently offers 3G access is limited in limited testing under existing licensing agreements with telecommunications companies in the state.

Mr. Arnon said TOT plans to open its 3G system in 17 provinces by November.

Plans for 1772 base stations to be installed in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi, with another 1,686 in Chon Buri, Rayong, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nong Khai Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang and Phitsanulok.

Another 1,314 stations were installed in the remaining 59 provinces by the end of next year.

“TOT3G already has about 200,000 customers. We hope this momentum to 1.3 million this year and an additional 7 million in 2015,” said Arnon.

In addition to wireless Internet applications for the new network include videoconferencing, transmission of HDTV and online gaming.

Mr. Arnon said the CDC’s future council would also consider a restructuring designed to help the company compete better in the future.

The changes will reduce the number of business groups and nine of 12. The mobile business services group, once one of the most important of the CDC, will be merged with the radio-USO (universal service obligation) of the group in a wireless business group.
