14 Year Old Driver and 15 Year Old Passenger Killed in Chiang Kong Traffic Accident
CHIANG RAI – Police in Chiang Kong have reported that Two youth, one of them the driver, were killed when the pickup truck they were driving in overturned at a curve and rammed into a tree on Saturday night as they were heading to Chiang Kong.
Pol Lt Col Arkom Yanatham, a duty officer at Chiang Kong police station, said the pickup truck was traveling at high speed and the driver, who was aged 14, lost control of the vehicle at the curve.
The 15 years old in the passenger seat also died, five other teens aged between 13 and 18, were injured, two of them critically.
Pol Lt Col Arkom said the 14 year old driver borrowed the vehicle from a relative and were going to a friend’s house in Chiang Kong district to attend a birthday party. Chiang Kong Police have summoned their relatives for questioning.
Meanwhile a drug courier was killed and 50,000 methamphetamine pills seized in a clash between a ranger patrol of the Pha Muang Force and a group of couriers near the border with Myanmar in Chiang Rai’s Mae Fa Luang district.
The clash occurred at about 4.30am when the patrol led by Maj Sumit Saenduangdee, commander of Ranger Company 3109 of the Pha Muang Force, spotted between eight and 10 men, each carrying a weapon and a backpack, walking near Ban Mae Chan Luang in tambon Mae Salong of Mae Fa Luang district.
When told by the rangers to stop for a search, the men opened fire. A fierce gun battle ensued for about 20 minutes during which the couriers slipped back into the forest.
The rangers waited until dawn before clearing the area. They found the body of one drug courier. An AK47 rifle with 25 rounds of ammunition and a backpack containing 50,000 methamphetamine pills(Yaba) was found by his body
