Autopsies Delayed on Belanger Sisters
Chiangrai Times– The Canadian Embassy in Bangkok has not asked Thai authorities to delay autopsies on the bodies of two Canadian sisters until the arrival of their relatives.
Audrey and Noemi Belanger, aged 20 and 26, from Canada’s Quebec provinceNoemi Belanger and Audrey Belanger of eastern Quebec died last week under mysterious circumstances at a hotel on Phi Phi Island.
The experts from the department’s Bureau of Epidemiology on Tuesday looked into evidence and traces of hazardous substances at the hotel, where the bodies of Audrey and Noemi Belanger, aged 20 and 26, from Canada’s Quebec province, were found last Friday, showing signs of having suffered an extreme toxic reaction
The experts have not yet concluded on what caused the deaths of the two sisters. But according to them, among possible causes of the death is the intake of arsenic or pesticide
The bodies of the women in their 20s have since been transferred to Bangkok.
The Canadian Embassy in Bangkok and relatives have asked that the postmortems be performed at Bangkok’s Ramathibodi Hospital.
The hospital’s director said it has received the bodies from police and the autopsies will be concluded in two weeks.
The sisters grew up Pohenegamook, a town in eastern Quebec near the Maine border. They studied in Quebec City with their eldest sister, but worked at the family store in the community of roughly 3,000.
