The new Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck is going through final testing in Thailand before entering production at GM’s Rayong assembly plant.

Final testing of GM’s all-new Chevy Colorado, built in Rayong, Thailand, is coming to an end as the global midsize pickup truck prepares for its worldwide introduction.

Thailand will be the first market to get the new truck, but concepts of the vehicle, such as the Colorado Rally, have already been seen in Argentina, Australia and Germany.

We knew that Chevrolet’s Asian division is important, as they helped put together a number of compact hatches that Europeans and Americans drive right now, but it seems that even the replacement for the all-mighty Colorado pickup has received its baptism there, as the 2013 generation was put through final testing in Thailand.

The workhorse will start rolling off the production lines in Rayong and Thailand will be the first market to get the all-new pickup. The model lineup will feature crew-cab and extended-cab variants powered by GM’s new fuel-efficient, four-cylinder Duramax diesel engines.

Chevrolet Colorado Chief Engineer Roberto Rempel and his testing team have lived in the country during the development, as they wanted to ensure that the 2013 Colorado meats the local market needs in Southeast Asia and abroad.

“The hard work for this program has been done, and we are incredibly pleased with the results. This is a world-class truck that will appeal to buyers not just in the heavily concentrated truck markets of Southeast Asia, but around the world,” Rempel said.

“We know customers of this type of vehicle want a workhorse and a daily-use vehicle all in one, so our product has to deliver. We have benchmarked the toughest, most flexible vehicles around the world. When you combine that approach with our detailed consideration of global expectations, we are confident the new Colorado will be a winner,” the Colorado Chief Engineer added.

In addition, the engine range for the 2013 was revealed to include both 2.5-liter and 2.8-liter diesel engines, which feature overhead cams, turbocharging and durable aluminum cylinder heads for high levels of refinement and durability. Up until now, we only knew of the 2.8-liter that the Rally Concept came with.
