Urban Dictionary' is the New Trend Here's Why Gotta Try it Out

It was a surprise to many people when the phrase “Urban Dictionary” became trending on Twitter on Monday. What was so remarkable about the crowdsourced slang dictionary, which, until now, was primarily used by parents to decode their kids’ texts? (First of two personal notes: I use Urban Dictionary to decode my kids’ text messages.)

CNET reported that “bored web surfer” discovered they could use the site to look up their first names and discover something new.

The process is very simple. Go to “UrbanDictionary.com” and type in your name. You get an entirely new meaning instead of the traditional meaning, such as “beautiful” or “brave”.

According to Urban Dictionary, Sophia means “one of the funniest girls you’ll ever meet,” while Liam means “stiff-minded warrior.” Sophia, however, means “one of the wisest girls you’ll ever meet.” Always makes you laugh until you hurt. Eyes of brown and brown hair.”

Lastly, Liam means “The most non-obvious soul mate…He loves to the fullest. And he has awesome hair.”

Be prepared for bad spelling and some offensive language as it’s crowd-sourced. If you don’t like a meaning, keep scrolling – you’re likely to find a safer one below.

And now for the second of two personal notes: I had to look up “Leada,” which traditionally means “Lady” or “Swan” but is basically non-existent in most baby name books. I get it. It’s odd, especially the spelling. But low and behold, it’s in the Urban Dictionary, sorta:

“Creepa Leada: One of the creepers. He dresses like a girl and draws people in his notebook.”

Not exactly accurate or relevant, but it is something.

Good luck!
