Hp; If You Buy The Wrong Printer Ink, HP Will Compensate You
(CTN News) _ Several EU-based HP printer owners could be in for a windfall after the company confirmed it would compensate some who weren’t aware their printers were enabled for “Dynamic Security.”
Third-party cartridges with non-HP chips or circuitry were not compatible with the feature.
Following a legal claim against from advocacy group Euroconsumers, the settlement comes from a $1,35 million fund.
How did it actually happen?
The Dynamic Security firmware update restricted printing capacity without the users’ knowledge, and also prohibited the use of third-party ink cartridges which did not include proprietary technology.
A new firmware update has been released by HP for some of its printers as a result of the issue being resolved.
However, the parties have not acknowledged any fault or wrongdoing by agreeing not to pursue legal action.
HP printer models purchased between September 1, 2016, and November 17, 2020 are eligible for settlement compensation in Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
According to HP CEO Enrique Lores’ recent speech, print volumes have taken a relatively significant hit as a result of the pandemic.
For subscribers to HP Instant Ink, the company offered a subscription-based paper delivery service
