ChatGPT Gets a Major Upgrade With Web Plugins From Open AI
(CTN News) – It was announced in March that OpenAI would begin developing plugins to enhance ChatGPT’s functionality by acting as the “eyes and ears” of the tool, ensuring that it is a versatile tool that can assist users with a wide range of tasks.
A limited number of users were initially able to access these plugins as part of an alpha testing phase that was open to all.
OpenAI, however, announced on Friday last week that it has released over 70 third-party plugins that are now rolling out to ChatGPT Plus users and that they will be available for download in the very near future.
There has been a significant expansion of the capabilities of ChatGPT with the release of this update.
If you subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, plugins will be activated automatically under the section titled “Beta Features” in your settings.
In addition, users will have access to OpenAI’s advanced ChatGPT-4 model, which is a significant improvement over ChatGPT-3, but it still has its shortcomings.
This subscription service is priced at $20 per month. Over 70 third-party plugins are also available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers as part of the free subscription.
In addition to parsing website content, visualizing and analyzing data, and even assisting in learning foreign languages, the new plugins for WordPress provide a diverse range of functionalities.
Even though users can install and use as many plugins as they would like, they are only allowed to use a maximum of three plugins at any given time.
It is important to keep in mind that these plugins cater to various industries and business ventures, covering many areas such as retail, real estate, stocks, travel, and food.
An example of such a plugin is the “ndricks Sports” plugin which aggregates and provides relevant news and information about sports to users.
There are several plugins available for ChatGPT, among which “AskYourPDF” and “ChatWithPDF” allow users to upload URLs of PDF files, which ChatGPT analyzes as part of the chat process.
Despite this, these plugins exhibit selectivity when it comes to accepting specific URLs and are unable to detect local files on the computer of the user.
This plugin is still in beta phase, and it shows the current performance of the ChatGPT-plugins at the time of writing. In the case of the “ndricks Sports” plugin, for example, you can find accurate information, however the reference links don’t always take you back to the website from which obtained its information.
A few PDF plugins don’t always work as they should at times, as they are not designed to work properly.
While this may not seem like a significant upgrade, it is still a major step forward for ChatGPT’s capabilities and a much-needed one in the wake of rival companies such as Google enhancing their own AI tools like the Bard AI system.
