(CTN News) – Adobe is stepping into the world of GenAI-powered music editing with a unique twist. The company introduced Project Music GenAI Control at the Hot Pod Summit in Brooklyn.

This innovative platform generates audio from text descriptions such as “happy dance” or “sad jazz” and allows users to customize the results seamlessly within the same workflow.

Additionally, users can modify parameters like tempo, intensity, repeating patterns, and structure, or extend a track to an arbitrary length, facilitating music remixing and creating endless loops.

In collaboration with researchers from the University of California and Carnegie Mellon, Adobe is developing Project Music GenAI Control, which will eventually be publicly available.

However, as of now, the platform remains in the research stage, lacking a user interface, according to Adobe’s head of audio and video AI research, Gautham Mysore.

Mysore highlighted the interactive nature of the tool, emphasizing that users are in the “director’s seat” as AI generates music while providing various controls for experimentation.

Ethical Landscape of Adobe GenAI Music Tools

The platform aims to empower individuals to express their musical ideas without requiring extensive compositional skills.

Despite the creative potential of GenAI music tools, ethical and legal concerns arise as AI-generated content, including music, gains popularity.

Instances of homemade tracks utilizing GenAI to replicate familiar sounds and vocals have gone viral, prompting copyright concerns from music labels.

The legal landscape regarding AI-generated content is still evolving, with questions about potential copyright violations and commercialization remaining unclear.

To address these concerns, Adobe adopts a responsible approach, developing GenAI tools using licensed or public domain data to avoid intellectual property issues.

While specifics about Project Music GenAI Control’s data usage are undisclosed, Mysore mentioned that Adobe is working on watermarking technology to identify audio produced by the platform, though it is still a work in progress.

In navigating the evolving landscape of AI-generated content, Mysore expressed confidence that tools like Project Music GenAI Control will coexist with musicians, fostering the emergence of new musical ideas.

Adobe remains committed to responsible development and looks toward a future where AI and human creativity collaborate harmoniously.
