240Hz OLED Gaming Monitors Over 40 Inches Are On The Way

(CTN News) – The rate at which OLED screens are being adopted in the smartphone and TV markets has long been viewed with envy by PC gamers and enthusiasts.

Fortunately, OLED is now being adapted to PC with features such as deep blacks, fast refresh rates and response times.

This is in addition to the screen sizes and formats that are currently dominating the high end of the market. A gorgeous 40-inch+ 240Hz gaming screen from MSI and another from LG have been spotted in recent hours.

MSI has released a teaser for the project 491C, which it describes as the world’s first super ultra-wide QD-OLED curved gaming monitor.

There is no doubt that the most appealing aspect of MSI’s upcoming monitor is its display, and this quantum dot-infused OLED panel (probably from Samsung) should be able to refresh at a very respectable 240Hz.

With this screen’s native resolution, you will require a powerful GPU (with FSR or DLSS) to achieve maximum visual quality and run at refresh rates approaching 240Hz in modern AAA titles.

We cannot wait to learn more about MSI’s upcoming monitor, but we will have to wait for now. In January next year, it will be officially revealed at CES 2023. At this time, we do not have any further specifications or indicative pricing for MSI Project 491C.

Due to its official launch, we now know a great deal more about LG’s Ultra Gear OLED Curved Gaming Monitor. In comparison to MSI’s upcoming display, this monitor has a 45-inch diagonal, lacks QDs, but matches its 240Hz top refresh rate.

In addition to its curvature of 800R, the LG 45GR95QE-B features a display resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels at 84 pixels per inch, an incredible 1500000:1 contrast ratio (thanks to OLED technology), and a color gamut of 98.5% under DCI-P3 standards.

LG’s 45-inch OLED gaming monitor offers a headline 240Hz max refresh rate,

Which is supported by both NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD Free Sync Premium VRR technologies. In addition, I would like to mention that the response time is extremely fast at 0.03 milliseconds (GtG).

Additionally, Ultra Gear monitors like this one support LG’s gaming technologies, including Black Stabilizer, Crosshair, FPS Counter, Dynamic Action Sync, and multiple gaming preset modes.

With LG’s 45GR95QE-B, which also boasts anti-glare low-reflective front polarizers, PBP, and RGB hexagon lighting, the company does not hold back on features.

A 1-to-3 USB hub is included as well as two HDMI ports and one DP port. In terms of audio, the device has a headset combo jack, as well as SPDIF out.

However, there are no speakers present. As an additional feature company as being able to mount this monitor on VESA 100 x 100 mounts, LG also provides a stand that is fully adjustable for tilting (-5° to 15°), swiveling (-10° to 10°) and height (0° to 110mm). Included with the kit is a DC adapter of 19.5V and 10.8A as well as a set of cables.

Initially available for pre-order starting December 12th, the 45GR95QE-B will begin shipping on December 28th. On its product page, LG lists the phone at $1,699.99, but it asks interested parties to register for a “special pre-order offer.”
