The Sixers Have Traded For Pacers Sharpshooter Buddy Hield

(CTN News) – Having a desperate need for shooting, the Sixers acquired Buddy Hield, one of the league’s finest, from the Pacers on Thursday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the team will send Marcus Morris, Sr., Furkan Korkmaz and three second-round picks to Indiana. The full details of the picks the Sixers will be giving up were provided by Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Over the past eight years, Hield has established himself as one of the best three-point shooters in the league. On an average of 7.7 attempts per game, the 31-year-old has shot over 40% from deep during his career.

It is true that his minutes and numbers are down (38.4%, 6.9 attempts), but just last season he was making 42.5% of his threes on 8.5 attempts per game.

In addition to Hield’s accuracy, the Sixers require his volume as well.

Sixers’ three-point percentage ranks 17th, but their attempts rank 26th. The team generates the lowest percentage of its points from three out of any team in the NBA.

The math does not add up when you take into consideration teams like the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New York Knicks, who are all ranked in the top 10 in that category.

He is being questioned regarding his ability to put the ball on the floor as well as his defensive ability. It is difficult to tell whether he will be playoff-viable in both departments for the Sixers, even though he has improved in both departments throughout his NBA career.

The signing of Hield does raise some concerns about the health of De’Anthony Melton in the future. In the last two seasons, Melton has started 91 games for the Sixers, but has been sidelined by two separate back injuries. His lumbar spine has been sore recently. It was his 16th game out of 18 that he missed on Wednesday.

It is anticipated that Nick Nurse will find Hield to be a very valuable addition to his rotation, regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench.
