Thailand’s Women’s Soccer Team Finishes 4th at AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Amman, Jordan
AMMAN – Thailand’s women’s soccer team was defeated by China 1-3 ending up in the 4th place of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Amman, Jordan, on Friday (April 20).
The two teams were held scoreless in the first half, but at the 51st minute into the second half, Li Ying scored the first goal for the Chinese team, which had never lost to Thailand in 13 previous meetings.
Then at the 56th minute, Ren Guixin headed the ball toward the net which was saved by the Thai goalkeeper, but the ball onto the leg of Wang Shanshan who slid the ball into the net.
Xuang Tuan netted the third goal before Silawan Intamee fired a shot which hit the goal pole with the ball reflecting toward Rattikan Thongsombut who drove it into the net.
The game ended with the Thai team losing 1-3 to China and took the 4th place after China which finished third.
The loss does not affect the Thai team’s entry to the 2019 World Cup Final in France.
Meanwhile, Japan became champions of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for a second successive time, as Kumi Yokoyama’s superb late goal secured a 1-0 win over Australia.
The Thai team will fly back home from Amman at 9 pm local time on Saturday. They are expected to arrive at Suvarnabhumi international airport at about 12.15 pm on Sunday.
