South Africa Thrashes England In World Cup 2023

(CTN News) – On Saturday, South Africa defeated defending champions England in the 20th match of the World Cup 2023 with a huge 229-run triumph in the 20th match of the tournament.

Having batted first at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the Proteas took the English bowlers to the cleaners, accumulating a massive total of 399 runs, the majority of it thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s blistering 109-run knock. The English team, on the other hand, were bowled out at 170 runs in the 22nd over of the match.

It is worth noting that South Africa are ranked number three at the moment in the points table. This is due to the fact that they have won three out of the four matches they have played in the tournament so far.

As England chased a 400-run target, they were on the verge of suffering a 300-run defeat. But a valiant effort by their tailenders, Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood, saved them from the disgrace as they combined to put on a 70-run partnership, with the latter scoring an unbeaten 43 runs off 17 deliveries.

Despite the fact that England were on their way to suffering a 300 run defeat, a valiant effort by their tailenders, Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood, saved them as both batters built a 70-run partnership with Wood adding unbeaten 43 runs on 17 deliveries to his innings.

There was not a single English batsman who could hold his nerves and was unable to score in double figures against the devastating Proteas’ bowling attack as three of their four top-order batsmen – Dawid Malan, Joe Root and Ben Stokes – failed to score in double figures.

A quick succession of wickets resulted in Wood scoring 43 runs for England as the entire English team was sent back to the pavilion for just 170 runs.

The South African bowlers – Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jensen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj and Gerald Coetzee – wreaked havoc on the English batters and sent them all back to the pavilion.

Earlier in the day, South Africa, batting first, posted a massive total of 399 runs thanks to a great display of batting from their top and middle order.

As Reeza Hendricks and Russie van der Dussen built an important 121-run partnership despite losing Quinton de Kock for just four runs in the first over, the Proteas did not falter and continued to play with an attacking mindset.

It was the 151-run partnership between Klaasen and Marco Jensen that caused the South Africa remainder of the damage to the English bowlers.

A rapid century was scored by Klaasen, who scored 109 runs off 67 deliveries with 16 boundaries. Jensen scored 75 runs off 42 deliveries, including nine boundaries.

England’s Reece Topley picked up three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Adil Rashid each picked up two, but their efforts were not enough to contend with the destructive Proteas batting.

As a result, the South Africans will now face Bangladesh on October 24 at the same venue, while England will face Sri Lanka on October 26 in Bengaluru.
