In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, non-governmental organizations are taking a stance. Polish, Swedish, and Czech football associations have all taken significant actions since the war began. The three FAs called on FIFA to move the 2018 World Cup qualifiers out of Russia in a joint statement on Friday.

Vladimir Putin launched a military operation against Ukraine on Thursday, reigniting a decades-long conflict in the region. Putin attacked Ukraine by land, air, and sea, targeting military installations in all major cities. Some countries, such as the United States, Japan, and Australia, have imposed sanctions against Russian leaders and businesses since the war began.

There are reports that Russia may be barred from participating in this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Polish FA is in discussions with its counterparts in Sweden and the Czech Republic about whether they wish to play against Russia at all, regardless of the venue, according to The Athletic. It will be interesting to see if FIFA takes a stance on this issue, given that other nations are reluctant to play Russia.

Because of Putin’s decision to attack Ukraine, Russia’s sporting community has already received criticism from the international community. UEFA has decided to move the 2022 Champions League final out of Russia due to the ongoing violence in the region. This year’s Champions League final will be held in Paris, France instead of Saint Petersburg, Russia, which was originally scheduled for May.

As a result of the conflict, the Russian Grand Prix, scheduled for September, has been canceled. Formula One issued a formal statement regarding the matter. Scott Morrison had previously called for the cancellation of all international sporting events in Russia.
Several Russian athletes have also expressed their displeasure with Putin’s war on Ukraine. Andrey Rublev, the world’s No. 7 tennis player, sent a powerful message to Putin after qualifying for the final of the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships on Friday.

Rublev wrote ‘No war please‘ on the camera, which had come to get his autograph after the win. Russian NHL star Alex Ovechkin also made a similar appeal on Friday as he called on both Russia and Ukraine to resolve the issue peacefully.
