Injury Prone Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders Has Suffered Yet Another Setback

Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders is hurt again, having suffered a hamstring injury earlier this month.

Miles Sanders has sustained several injuries since being drafted by the Eagles in 2019.

The Pennsylvania native got a hamstring injury during preseason camp on August 19, 2020, that kept him out of Week 1 action against the Washington Commanders, and was injured again in October following a patella sprain.

The player wouldn’t finish the year unscathed and would deal with another knee issue on December 31 which limited his practice time.

Last year, Miles Sanders was unfortunate to suffer an MCL sprain during a Wild Card loss to the Seattle Seahawks in January and then had to deal with an ankle injury he went down with during a Week 7 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in October.

Another ankle injury during a loss to the New York Giants in Week 12 did not leave him unavailable for the next game.

He re-injured it in December but was still able to play the next game. However, he broke his hand in Week 16 in December and missed the next two games.

The 25-year-old has been out of practice since the first preseason game due to leg soreness.

He played in a game against the New York Jets but did not join practice the following day.

He remained out of the next practice, with the Eagles reporting the injury as one to the hamstring.

There’s nothing on the seriousness at the moment but there is reason to be worried based on the player’s history of injuries over the course of the last two seasons.

He has missed eight games with various injuries over the last two years, while he’s been restricted in many other fixtures.

Miles Sanders played eight snaps against the Jets and caught two passes for 20 yards but didn’t have any carries.

The RB’s 5.1 career average is the highest in team history for a player in his position and the eighth-highest in NFL history by a player who isn’t a quarterback.

He is also one of six players in league history to have started his career with three consecutive seasons of at least 750 rushing yards and an average of 4.6.

The Eagles’ chances of winning a Super Bowl would be more significant with Miles Sanders on the field and, to that end, bettors can take advantage of Pennsylvania sportsbook promo codes.

The former Penn State star will be a free agent at the end of the upcoming season and his ability to remain on the field will go a long way toward determining how valuable he is to the Eagles or another team.

Miles Sanders finished last season with 754 rushing yards yet didn’t score any touchdowns in the 12 games he played.

The ankle sprain and broken hand cost him five games and the timing of the ankle injury was pretty bad as the coaching staff had decided to focus on the running game that same week.

He was forced to miss time as rookie Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott, Jordan Howard, and Jalen Hurts enjoyed the advantage.

The Eagles are known to use nickel-sized tech to track their players’ recovery, which came to the fore while Carson Wentz was working his way back from injury in 2018.

Philadelphia was the first team to have a player-tracking system in its training facilities and not many organizations were quick to follow suit.

The technology saw tags that could register biometric measurements put into players’ shoulder pads or sewn onto their jerseys while a chip in the ball would calculate the velocity and speed of a throw.

They’re sure to work that in when it comes to Miles Sanders, whose health has become a priority as he heads into a contract year.

The player did more cardio and full-body workouts while spending more time in the team’s training room doing preventative work instead of waiting for when his body’s taken a beating.

“I can see it in his arms, his legs, he put on a lot of good strength,” Gainwell said of his teammate, per ESPN. “He came into this year ready to ball, ready to do his thing.”

“Explosiveness,” offensive coordinator Shane Steichen offered when asked what he’s seen that’s different where Miles Sanders is concerned.

“We know he’s an explosive player, but even in individual, the way he’s running, he’s running hard, he’s taking care of the football, he’s hitting it, he’s seeing it well.

He made a few plays the other day where he jump-cut through the line of scrimmage and hit it. I mean, it’s been good to see.”

As for the possibility of a new deal with the Eagles, Miles Sanders claims he isn’t worried.

“I’m not really worried about the contract, not as much as you guys think I should,” he said earlier in the offseason.

“I’m just trying to keep it focused on the season and less on the contract and any of that extra stuff.”

He does want his respect, though.

Following reports of him working with the second-team offense during practice, it appears the player was a bit peeved.

While the reports were true, they have little bearing on plans for next season as he’s considered a starter.

He’s also thought to be on track to play in Week 1.

“Just [to] get the respect that I finally deserve,” he said. “That’s all.”

The Eagles will hope to have Miles Sanders healthy all season. He will be wanting the same.
